Coronado - 1, UBL - 0

Incredible news this evening...

Congratulations to the Navy Special Warfare community that is such a presence here in Coronado. It seems that the SEAL operators conducted a remarkable raid. I'm looking forward to finding out more about the operation.

Having first become aware of Usama Bin Laden way back in '98 as a young Army Infantry Officer conducting operations in Europe, this is especially noteworthy to me.

What considerations would you have to make in planning an operation of this nature?

  1. Their are 6 Seal Teams rated from 1-6
    6 being the greatest.

We have ST 1 and ST3 out of the 6ST's.

    ST 6 conduted the raid.

Somethings i would consider is his chance of escaping via tunnels. If he escaped it would be one of the greatest failures in military history considering the amout of inteligence we had on this topic.

  2. Hi Stan,

Thanks for the info on the Seal Teams,

That's too bad it wasn't one of our locally stationed teams. All the seals conduct the BUDS course here though, correct?

Securing the objective is an important consideration in planning a raid. Nice point.

  3. The teams are not rated from best to worst. seal team six is the most exclusive and you have to be extremly good at what you do to be transfered there. seal teams 1-5 are all the same skill level, they are just broken up into smaller teams so they can be quickly deployed from any where in the world. there is also SDV's (SEAL delivery vehicle) teams that are stationed in hawaii and are deployed from submarines all around the world.
